Durance - High Street Armadale

If you have ever walked up High Street Armadale chances are you have smelt the fragrant aroma coming from the Durance store.

The French inspired store nestled in one of Melbourne’s top shopping strips stocks wares from around the globe - fragrances, soaps, body products, candles, bed linen, glassware, artwork, clothing, shoes, handbags, children’s gifts etc.

Six weeks ago the doors were opened to a second Durance store - 911 High Street Armadale (near the Corner of Northcote Road). The larger space has allowed them to expand on their collection and introduce things like fresh flowers, more clothing, Andrew Wilson antique furniture and the most delicious fresh bread.

Shopping at Durance was a wonderful experience. They have an amazing collection of cool and classic items. You will find it hard to track down these items in other shops in Melbourne. The ladies are lovely and have their finger on the pulse when it comes to their product selection.

My favourite hip items were:

Antique zinc pig trough, perfect for herbs
Miss Monnipenni Piggy Bank – hand made in Germany with wood and leather
Marble serving dishes
IKKS clothing
Portuguese white cotton mats
The ever popular French Bensimon shoes
Espadrilles using the fabric from vintage tea towels – no two pairs are the same!
Hand crafted Hollywood Trading Company  (HTC) studded belts – direct from LA
NDC boots – Belgium designed and made by hand
Scented Durance candles
Tampico bags
Farmhouse ceramic sinks
Handmade fabric star musical mobiles.

Thank you Liz, Carrie and Sophie for having me in your gorgeous store.

Petitenget, Bali

One of our favourite places on our most recent trip to Bali was Petitenget bistro. Sean Cosgrove (also has the popular Cornerstore) is behind this stylish new Seminyak venture.

Executive Chef Simon Blaby has created a modern menu with an Italian and French slant. The food was absolutely delicious, so many flavours. Our favourite dishes were:

  •  Carpaccio of hand sliced yellowfin tuna, pearl snapper, watercress, pomelo, dill, tangerine dressing.
  •      Vietnamese duck salad, mint, green chilli, pickled carrot, glass noodles, nuoc cham.
  •       Pan Roast Barramundi Fillet, prawn and chicken laksa broath, bean sprouts, roast chilli jam and fresh lime.
  •       Baguette filled with tiger prawns, cucumber, lemon aioli, romaine lettuce.
  •       Chicken and seafood laksa, egg noodles, bean sprouts, roast chilli jam.
  • Peach and vanilla Frappe.
It's an excellent spot for breakfast too.

Alex Zaboto-Bentley of AZB Creative is responsible for the stylish interior. I love his inspiration for the interiors -  "French bistro on the Cote d’Azure. It’s been shut up for years, full of lovely old crystal vases, 1930s cane, lush, palm print wallpapers, classic marble, hand picked tiles and polished wood floors. The colours have de-saturated, the furniture feels a little worn-in, but its beauty has been preserved. Now re-open that little bistro in chic Seminyak, Bali."

He apparently had the Martinique banana palm wallpaper in the lounge area sourced from the original maker who created it for the original Beverly Hills Hotel. Don’t get me started on the floor tiles, they’re exquisite!
